Author Susan Mathis allows us to travel back to 1872 and see the world through the eyes of a young woman in service. I could sympathize with Katelyn and her difficulty keeping her tongue in check. It can be so challenging sometimes. Mathis shows us how to do that by use of prayer and scripture. While not in the least preachy, we see that God wants to walk with us and help us in our times of need. And Katelyn isn’t the only one with some challenges.Very well-developed characters who grow personally and spiritually make this story come to life. The author’s research of the time frame and area of the country enhanced the story greatly. I enjoyed learning about the Thousand Islands, and imagining what it would have been like to have the president visit for a few days.If you enjoy clean historical fiction with sweet romance, and a story that has a satisfying ending, then you’ll enjoy Katelyn’s Choice.I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

Katelyn Kavanagh is struggling to accept the death of her mother. Her father and brothers have always treat her poorly. She needs to get away. Fortunately she has a chance to improve her prospects. She and her Irish twin have been offered employment by George M. Pullman at his summer residence. When she goes to this estate on one of the Thousand Islands she enters a world where she struggles with the class distinction between the wealthy and their servants. Will she find herself and be able to tame her loose tongue? I enjoyed Katelyn’s inspirational story as she matures and finds love. I especially loved the interaction between Katelyn and the Pullman girls. The book is filled with interesting historical facts on the Gilded Age and the wealthy who summered there. Katelyn is drawn to a childhood acquaintance, Thomas, who works on the Island. The interaction between the characters isn’t always easy. Their emotions get in the way. The dialogue is realistic and honest. I enjoyed Katelyn’s Choice. It is well written. Susan G. Mathis does a wonderful job. She’s able to combine fact and fiction into a riveting story. I’m looking forward to the next book in the Thousand Island Gilded Age Series.

Katelyn's Choice is a gripping story of relationships and emotions as young Katelyn Kavanagh finds her way in a complicated world, serving the wealthy George Pullman family in the beautiful Thousand Islands of Upstate New York. Spunky nineteen-year-old Katelyn has much to learn--mostly about taming her tongue and stifling gossip--to fulfill her duties and mature into the gracious young woman worthy of the love of Thomas O'Neill. Multi-published author Susan Mathis skillfully develops each character, drawing us into their dreams as well as their challenges. This is an enjoyable read with a poignant message--the power of faith to bring change--wrapped in a sweet story of love blossoming amid fascinating historical events. Dianne Barker, author, I Don't Chase the Garbage Truck Down the Street in My Bathrobe Anymore!

This was an enjoyable read about the 1870s, from the perspective of 150 years in the future. By this I mean it is enjoyable and entertaining; well worth the read, but I feel the main characters would probably never historically have spoken or behaved in this manner. Perhaps today's audience wishes to see things from this more 'modern' perspective.Maybe I am an old fashioned 'stick in the mud'. Read for yourself and decide! Let me know what YOU think!I received an ARC, and this is my honest opinion.

I really enjoyed reading Katelyn's Choice and reading about the history of the Thousand Islands in the Gilded Age and of the area around it. I loved all the characters in the book and their interactions together. The story centres on Katelyn and how she grows in maturity during a season of working for the Pullmans on their island and along the way falls in love and learns to turn to God to guide her throughout the novel in regards to curbing her wayward tongue and her walk towards faith and turning to God to guide her. The author brings vividly to life a small slice of what life was like for servants and the wealthy during a particular summer season. This was a new author for me and I look forward to other books by her.I received a complimentary copy of this book .

This is a very well written book that holds your attention all the way to the end. I loved the element of faith in this book. If you enjoy clean historical fiction you will love this book. This is a new to me author and I look forward to reading the rest of this series. I received an ARC copy of this book. This is my honest opinion.

Katelyn's Choice is the relatable tale of an enthusiastic, aspiring young women just embarking on her life's adventure. Opportunity for employment on Pullman Island, one of the Thousand Islands, serving the family of George Pullman enables Katelyn's escape from a difficult past, but will her weakness for sharing a good story threaten her new friendships and budding relationship? I truly enjoyed Susan Mathis' wholesome historical novel and look forward to future stories in the Thousand Islands Series!

I enjoyed aspects of biblical, historical, and relatable moment's in this most enjoyable story. Rare to find a book with romance without sex and else's that most of us can relate to our own lives. A truly clean good read for any age group from adolescent to seniors. Thanks. Pegge
