**This review is for the 25th anniversary edition released June 27, 2017. Please note Amazon imported 66 reviews from previous editions. As of today, 12 reviews are of this edition.** I am still reading the book but felt a few notes were worth posting a review. First, not sure if a previous reviewer just got a bad book but my book doesn't seem to have been hastily made and is of good quality. The spine, cover, pages, and paper used (even the paper used on the color pages) are all crisp with no ink smudging, no glue residue, and no stuck/incorrectly cut pages. As for the book itself, the forward is pretty lengthy with some intimacy yet very prominent formality. Not my favorite writing style but I'm glad it's just in the forward. Before purchasing this edition, I tried to find a comparison of all previous editions to see what was specifically added but never could find solid info. This edition is broken into three parts: edited transcripts of Diana's interviews that are in the original publication, a biography, and all aftermath to date since the original 1992 publication. In all, there are 13 chapters, the last being titled "The People's Princess." Hopefully this will help someone else considering this as a first read (like myself) or an updated edition. Diana's transcripts are indeed somewhat scattered but expected since she wasn't directly interviewed; however, it is still easy to move along with her and I enjoyed it better this way since they are her direct words and storytelling. The biography goes into detail about her birth up to adulthood with an intricate detail about her blood lines (which I never knew but thought neat). Will update when I'm finished reading the book in its entirety. So far, worth the money spent.

Princess' own words in the beginning of this book were moving but disjointed and I wanted to hear more from her heart. The rest of the book by the author filled in some of the gaps. I have always been fascinated by her and admired and loved her. I am unconvinced her death was just a car accident; I believe her death was untimely and so tragic. I am outraged with how she was treated by Prince Charles and the Royal Family, and caused to feel such rejection and so unloved and unimportant. Her bulimia, insecurities, jealousy of Camilla, and ultimately the failure of her marriage simply makes her more human and relatable to ordinary people. I wanted her marriage to work out--her wedding and dress was incredible and we all wanted the fairy tale to come true--but it came smashing down. Yet her pain is part of why people loved her. She seemed to be such a loving, good mom and I was glad to see how her sons still honor her in this book. I thought this was a very interesting book and recommend it for Diana-admirers. She will not be forgotten.

Diana: Her True Story - In Her Own Words is a heartbreaking insight into the life and mind of one of the most beloved people the world has ever seen. Delving deep into some of Diana's most life-changing moments- both good and bad- is almost breathtaking. Reading the words on the page as she actually said them- completely breathtaking. I had to stop myself several times from becoming emotional while reading this book, as it reads quite differently than anything else I've come across. To hear what she felt, not from another's perspective, not from a third-party writing about her, but to actually read the words Diana once said is chilling. To read what she thought and why she did things, in a totally undiluted manner feels almost intrusive. Andrew Morton couldn't have written this book better if he tried, it flows together seamlessly. I'm so glad I decided to read this, I can't recommend it enough.

The writing is somewhat STUFFY!!! But, then, what would you expect from an Englishman. He takes delight in using big words and totally forgets who his intended audience is -- the average man and/or woman. Nevertheless, it is an interesting book. It paints a horrible picture of Prince Charles and his beloved, INTRUSIVE mistress Camilla. The really unfortunate thing is that Charles had an incredibly decent woman woman for a wife whose "Charity" work is legendary. On top of all that, she was beautiful and she provided him with two heirs to the throne. He had everything and he threw it all away for a affair with a woman who was a nothing and a nobody. I found myself wanting to smack Charles upside the head throughout the whole book. Sadly, I doubt it would bring him to his senses. He's now married to his dog faced mistress. They are both uncaring and unfeeling -- especially where Princess Diana, William and Harry were concerned. These two narcisists, Charles and his selfish mistress Camilla, deserve each other.

Who died too early, under dark circumstances. She was beautiful inside and out, unselfish , loving, brought up her children with great love, was greatly wronged by her husband and the royal family. It’s hard not to belieythat they had no part in her death. She was too inconvenient . Charles comes out as a spineless coward, who did not have the courage to marry the woman he really loved, let himself be pushed into marrying this true innocent human being he did not love, and then cinically proceeded to punish her for his mistake. It’s hateful unconscionable.,unacceptable.Having read other books about Princess Diana , there is no doubt in my mind she was murdered. She was too inconvenient for the future king. But who would want a spineless , coward, unfaithful king who talks to plants,

Interesting. This is the 3rd book I've read on Diana. The protection officer Ken Wharf, Burrell's first book and then this book. I found Ken's book the most measured, closest to what a life is. Burrell's book was obviously bs at times. His fawning over her is much ridiculous. Unbelievable really that he claims he was her closest adviser. This book is interesting in that it is her perspective, keeping in mind her perspective may not be total reality. I like this edition because it has direct transcripts evidencing her speaking and writing style. I recommend this book if you're interested in Diana.

My 8 year old son and I love Max Axiom comics! So great to teach with and spurs on many great discussions, they're extremely well written and thought out. Impressive interplay between being easy enough to read through without glossing over interesting details. This one is pretty fun with lots of cool aspects of the art that you only catch if paying attention - ie. numerous uses of chemical reactions throughout the story.

My son loves these. It is a great way for those visual learners to read about science. This book is a science comic book. My son finds it hard to read non-fiction but he loves these. My daughter is 8 and my son is 12 and both of them enjoy this book.

These are great for making science fun and easy to read about.

My son has been able to very explain science techniques since reading these series and finds great joy in reading them. He's now eager to get involved in science projects without us having to fuss at him.

My wife uses these in her 5th grade classroom and the students really like them. She found it especially useful with reluctant readers.

Great way of explaining complex concepts

The idea of these books is great, but they need to make the book longer with more of a plot so that children have time to get into the adventure and learn the information.

I ordered this book because it was recommended as a more interesting presentation of the subject of chemical reactions than the standard high school chemistry textbook. I wish that since Max Axiom is a superhero that he used some of these powers in the story to present the materila in an interesting and novel way. The material is like a textbook with many pictures. It is not what I expected. The material is probably at a middle school level.

If you want some technical tips on how to be the next Warren Buffet, go grab a copy of Ben Graham's Security Analysis from 1934. But if you want a look at the man Warren Buffett, you have come to the right place. Want to know what kind of family man Buffet is? Want to know how a billionaire treats his children? Or how a young millionaire budgets money to his homemaker wife? Fascinating stuff. You can also learn about his early career and how he got started, as well as his father the politician and the impact that had.To many of us Warren Buffet is a billionaire investor who knows the ins and outs of Wall Street way better than most of us. Being a financial celebrity, you would expect to find his whole life online. That though isn’t the case with Warren. Little was known about his personal life until Alice Schroeder wrote this book- The Snowball: Warren Buffet and the Business of Life. Reading through the book you will realize that you don’t have to be successful after everyone else has failed. Warren, commonly known as the “Oracle of Omaha” is a financial investor who also doubles up as a mentor. For only $13.84, you will get to meet Warren in this 832 pages book. He will endow you with timeless financial wisdom and proper business ethics that aren’t taught in school. His practical approach to life will motivate you to kick start your own. The pity party story that one may tend to propagate as reason as to why they aren’t succeeding will diffuse after reading this book. Warren worked to be where he is currently and was never born with a silver spoon. He is a practical inspiration. As you read along, you will learn that no man is an island and that having a strong support system will go a long way in ensuring you succeed. For example, his associate Charles Munger has been his associate since 1959. It doesn’t have to be the perfect system but rather a unit you can count on.The book is full of insights and it is by reading it that one will be able to grasp and even apply some of the insights in his/her life. Unlike some autobiographies that are boring to tears, this one is different. There are hilarious snippets after every other chapter and with no time you will complete reading the autobiography and even probably re-read it. It will feel just like the first time you opened the book to read. Alice has also included notes to help you understand the book better. The title of the book is a metaphor that depicts the ever growing wealth of Warren. The book is lengthy and has a lot of details some of which one may not find necessary but the conversational writing that Alice has employed in penning this book will keep you glued to the book. This is a must read book that walks you through the life of a legend.

Warren Buffett is world-famous for his success at investing. A native of Omaha, Nebraska, the son of a stock broker who served several terms in Congress, he began in business very young selling candy to neighbors and delivering newspapers but his real passion was reading everything he could get his hands on about investing in stocks and bonds, learning about businesses, and investing according to a carefully thought-out investing philosophy derived from the authors of several books he read who became his mentors at Columbia Business School-Benjamin Graham and David Dodd. This biography, written with the cooperation of Buffett by Alice Schroeder, an author with a Wall Street background, is a thoroughly-researched account of his life and career, beginning with his childhood in Omaha and following him through his education and his career as an investor and money-manager who, through the vehicle of his firm Berkshire Hathaway, made himself and many of his investors very wealthy. Indeed, in 2008 he was named the richest man on earth. The book chronicles his philosophy of business and many of his quirks - he favours Coke over wine and burgers and steaks over almost any other type of food - and delves into numerous accounts of his investments which have spanned cocoa-beans, textile mills, Wall Street investment banks, and railroads, among many others.Buffett comes across as an almost asocial machine constantly sifting through businesses to find the best bargains to invest in. With family and friends he seems remote and absent-minded, uninterested in things that fall outside the world of business. He seems never to have read a novel, for instance, or a poem. When one of his friends points out a Picasso sketch on the wall at his friend’s house he says he hasn’t noticed it even though he’s been going there for 30 years. He’s also kind of funny about money, which I suppose is not surprising given who he is. That said, he does change over the course of his life in some respects and the book does a good job of describing it, showing, for example, how he was persuaded to be more generous towards his children, and describing the way he went from believing that his greatest service to humanity was through amassing a huge fortune to believing that giving money away sooner was preferable. If this book has a limitation it is that it shies away from offering a more definitive interpretation of its subject that would aid the reader in coming to a deeper understanding of the real Warren Buffett. The book offers an account of the complete Buffett mythology: his folksy, Midwestern values, his common-sense voice, his sage wisdom about business. It reinforces his philosophy of investing in undervalued companies with excellent long-term prospects, his injunction, via Graham, to “be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful.” It charts his growing fame, his circus-like shareholder meetings, his numerous appearances in the business press and on business TV networks, his love for Cherry Coke and Gorat’s steakhouse. And while the mythology is probed and dissected in some ways - yes, he’s lived in the same house since 1958 but Schroeder points out that he has remodeled it since then - I don’t think the reader will come away from this book with a true understanding of what’s driving him, at least not with a view or interpretation of this that has the endorsement and exposition of the author. If I had to take a guess, the primary influence on Buffett seems to be his father, Howard Buffett, a stock broker from Omaha whose civic values led him to Washington D.C. where he served in Congress during Warren’s youth. His mix of patriotism and business seems to have greatly influenced his son whom he took on a visit to the New York Stock Exchange in 1940 at the age of ten. Buffett says he wanted money so he could be “independent” and didn’t like to do manual labor but so do lots of us and he didn’t stop making money once he’d become independent so there is clearly more to it than that. It’s this sort of reading of Buffett I wish there was more of in this book. The book is nonetheless filled with as much superficial detail as you could want about Buffett. At 816 pages there’s tons of information about his whole life and world, it perfectly captures Buffett’s voice, as well as separate accounts of many important times in his life from the perspective of his family and friends. Schroeder has written a good valuation report style biography of the man and I suppose in many ways that’s the type of biography most suited to this life.

I had to read the book because I work for Berkshire Hathaway and I had to understand our founder and what he stood for. I find a lot of parallels in the thinking of the great minds of incredibly brilliant people. This is a great American Dream success story but Warren Buffet takes very little credit for his success. He credits the success of his luck "the ovarian lottery" as he calls it, being born in America first, and then all the other possibilities that came to him by "luck". I see an incredible genius who was not afraid to follow his heart, take chances, and put in the hard work. I see a brilliant mind always thirsty for knowledge and growth but able to keep his feet planted on the ground. I see a human struggling for balance in life between what we want and can achieve and those we love. I see a man who cared and gave back and was not afraid to walk his own walk.

I love this book however the condensed version is missing the freshness and honesty of the first publication. Reads almost the same if you want the big picture, but the parts removed revealed the personality, fragility and humanness of Mr. Buffett and his family. Like many others' sentiments, this is a man I would like to meet.

I like the book. It is long though and has many events that I didn't know about Mr. Buffett. I read a lot of things about Buffett and it was nice to learn more about him. It is always interesting to me to learn about this incredible investor and to learn that like us, he has his faults just like the rest of us.

From the Inside Flap

The next twenty years will be completely unlike the last twenty years. The decisions you make today are critical. The world is in economic crisis, and there are no easy fixes to our predicament. Unsustainable trends in the economy, energy, and the environment have finally caught up with us and are converging on a very narrow window of time—the "Twenty-Teens." With solid facts and grounded reasoning presented in a calm, nonpartisan manner, The Crash Course explains our predicament and illuminates the path ahead so you can face the coming disruptions without fearing the future or retreating into denial. Our money system places impossible demands upon a finite world. Exponentially rising levels of debt, based on assumptions of future economic growth to fund repayment, have shuddered to a halt and are reversing, with severe and lasting consequences. Oil is essential for economic growth. The reality of dwindling oil supplies is now internationally recognized, yet virtually no developed nations have a Plan B. The economic risks to individuals, companies, and countries are varied and enormous. Best case: living standards will drop steadily worldwide. Worst case: systemic financial crises will toss the world into jarring chaos. This book is written for those who are motivated to learn about the root causes of our predicaments in order to protect themselves and their families, mitigate risks as much as possible, and control what effects they can. With challenge comes opportunity. The Crash Course offers a positive vision for how our lives can become more balanced, resilient, and sustainable. The world is changing. It's time to get busy. The Crash Course will show you how.

From the Back Cover

Praise for The Crash Course "Chris Martenson gave up a successful and conventional career to study the two great problems that we face: running out of critical resources—especially carbon-based energy—and a congenital failure to process unpleasant facts. Reading The Crash Course will help you recognize how dangerous our future is likely to be and will help you prepare for it. It is a job well done." —Jeremy Grantham, cofounder and Chief Investment Strategist, Grantham Mayo Van Otterloo "Among the handful of observers making sense of the economic scene, Chris Martenson is the most astute, coherent, and comprehensive. Reading Chris is like stepping out of a room full of smoke and mirrors into daylight." —James Howard Kunstler, author of The Long Emergency "Economists did not predict the Great Recession of 2008; Chris did. He looks deeper into the numbers than most and has found a painful future if we do not make a major turn. I deeply appreciate him for doing this work. He uses hard data to back up the self-evident common sense that if we do not consciously manage our natural resources and business relationships to give priority to the common good, we will face dire consequences. This is serious. Read this book." —Terry Mollner, Board Member, Ben & Jerry's "Chris addresses fundamental economic and energy issues in understandable terms and provides engaging perspectives. Readers will learn a great deal from his work." —Dr. Robert L. Hirsch, lead author of The Impending World Energy Mess

I thought the first half of the book was too long on explaining sustainability. Maybe just me, but it seemed too simplified. The second half of the book was the 'message'. This, I got a lots out of and Chris's points are important for the future of our planet and humankind. I think politicians should be required to read more on 'sustainability' and the limits of energy in the foreseeable future. China has more engineers as politicians than we do. Maybe that's why they can make a 5 year plan that has allowed China to have impressive growth from an agrarian economy to a modern technological economy. (yes, they have their problems too---probably because no one has done what they have done in the short time it has been done) I think their politicians have a better understanding of the issues brought forth in Chris's book. Should also be required reading in any high school/college economics and/or political science class.

In medicine, we try as much as possible to make recommendations to patients that are evidence-based, in other words, based on published research. For published research to be considered valid, other researchers must be able to duplicate the findings. The author of this book writes like a doctor who is explaining to a patient what the latest research shows with regard to her condition. That is to say, each and every paragraphs and sentence that he writes is based on research data. Here, he is saying, is what the research shows: Earth, the mother of all the known living matter in the universe, is being wounded. Wounded by whom?Wounded by humans, allegedly the most intelligent of all of Earth's species of living matter. What must we humans do to prevent the demise of the only known location of all the living matter in the universe?Read this book to know the answers.

The author identifies major economic, energy and environmental trends that are shaping our lives, then describes realistic ways we can respond as individuals and a society. This is a comprehensive, well-documented study; definitely not light reading but worth the effort for those who are concerned and want answers. “Part VII: What Should I Do?” contains the good news – we already have what we need to correct the harmful trends. We simply need the desire and motivation to make the necessary changes a priority. As individuals, we can decide which ones are best suited to our abilities and needs. This is a lengthy book, but it definitely will help you reset your priorities and come to terms with the inevitable changes that face us.

This book doesn't pull any punches, it hits the nail right on its head, and it tells it like it is. Basically, Chris Martenson is giving us the "wake up call" that the world needs, especially Americans like me, that we just can't continue to increase consumption without lots of bad things happening. Not only can't we continue to consume as before, Martenson warns us that we simply will not be able to, because of the convergence of the three "E's" of diminished economy, reduced energy, and compromised environment. I read this book right after completing "The Limits to Growth", and they both make perfect sense to me, the main message being "things can't grow forever". Martenson is trying to tell us that after over-consuming for so long, we will be forced to under-consume as energy scarcity makes everything so expensive, the economy will contract. If we want to avoid pain and suffering, we have to think sustainable from now on. The main question on any project, business, or resource use must be "is it sustainable"?My only criticism of the book is that a scant two pages were spent on alternative energy sources such as solar and wind power, which were casually dismissed as realistic alternatives to our coal and oil-based energy system. If the author lived where I do, he'd realize that the world is just waiting to tap into the greatest source of power in the world - the sun.

I've read all of this stuff before, in one way or another. I can't get enough of this stuff. I believe the majority of these types of perspectives on the global outlook (both resource/economy/environment-wise, as well as geo/political/economic-wise). It's amazing how blind and stubborn/ignorant our society can be, when all the proof is right in front of us!SPOILER: Almost all of this information is available on the author's website (for free), broken down into many mini-chapters that make it quick and easy to break down the otherwise 3 hour+ material into much more manageable sections....and, just like the website(I'm only a fraction of the way through the book, but it follows the same direction and approach as the website, almost word-for-word) this material will have you consistently breaking your promise to yourself of "Ok, I need sleep. I'm only reading x amount of pages tonight".**PLEASE READ BELOW, to see why I think you should still buy this book in addition to the video.---This book aims to change that, and takes an approach that I believe is overwhelmingly convincing, yet a VERY easy read, and VERY non-conspiracy-theory-nutjob-'the-sky-is-falling' style approach that will keep even skeptics reading page-after-page with open-mindedness and interest. WHICH IS HARD TO DO, with this type of material. It's seriously broken-down and explained easy enough for a middle-schooler to appreciate, yet has all the facts and all-encompassing perspectives that give the reader a bulletproof rationale for the book's stance. One thing I love to see in theorists works is when they play devil's advocate and attempt to shoot down their own theory, poke holes in it, and really give benefit-of-the-doubt to their critics----And then still manage to easily dismiss all those attacks by presenting logical step-by-step explanations backed by proof that keep their theory alive and well. This author Definitely does that. :)**The reason I suggest buying a copy of the book rather than solely watching it online (which is just as good, perhaps slightly more-so), is for multiple reasons:1) Often times when we watch long factual videos online, we allow ourselves to do other distracting things like check email, chat, or browse the web...which isn't the end of the world, but definitely takes away from the experience, and will almost assuredly result in loss of some of the fluidity and all-encompassing picture that this author has to offer.2) You can take a hardcopy anywhere. Waiting room in the doctor's office, on the john, slow times at work if you have any, in-transport (plane, train, bus). I know you can do this with other devices now, but my argument here is that when another person SEES that tangeable book in your hands, they get curious. They look at the cover. They ask questions.....It opens up a discussion topic. It allows you to perhaps spread the knowledge to others. Perhaps even make new aquaintences. And I believe that's what we believers need to do, if we want to get the message out! If you're reading this review right now, you're probably already convinced. And that's great. But most of us want to wake up the rest of the world to. And for that reason, I say BUY THE BOOK.3) You can give it away to a friend/family member as a gift, when you're done. And as a gift, adding the "I really want you to read this. It's enlightening, and I think you'll take a lot away from it. Tell me what you think when you're done" as you're handing them a tangeable book GOES A LONG WAY in convincing someone who may otherwise ignore it, to take the plunge. Facebook posts and emails and links in chat conversations can all-to-easily be ignored. But an in-person suggestion from a friend, with a physical gift in their hands, is hard to refuse.TRUST ME. BUY THIS BOOK. I HAAATE reading, but I love this book. Easy quick read, leaves you hungry for more, and is well written and convincing.BUY IT!
