Dr. Suzanne M. Miller was raised near Washington, DC and studied history and science at Harvard College. This is a very informative book. I purchased a few books on medical school and i really love this one. It has a week by week planner on how to apply to medical school. i would suggest you buy this book before u do ur pre-med and go thru it again during your application year. It is very helpful because it breaks the whole long hard process week by week, month by month. There is no one book that will have all the information you are looking for so i would suggest you also purchase "Mededits guide to medical school admissions by Jessica freedman" and "the medical school interview by Jeremiah fleenor" . These three books have given me a very clear picture on what needs to be done. Dont be discouraged about too many pages because these books take 2 or 3 days to be read. Its not bad of an investment. I thought i had done all the research out there until i read these books. If you have already decided to be a doctor please purchase these books. They will help alot. Each book has its own uniqueness

This book is a fantastic, well-organized guide to the admissions process. The numerous examples (with commentary) of personal statements and work/activities narratives have been a huge help to me, especially since I had no idea where to start as I began to put my application together. I've been carrying this book around me with everywhere for the past couple of months, and I rarely have a question that isn't answered in this book. The week-by-week layout is great too and helps keep me on track. There are a lot of med school essay and admissions guidebooks out there, but I would hands-down recommend this one to anyone applying to medical school. Also, I'd recommend you buy it around the fall before your application year (or before you sign up for the MCAT) so you can take full advantage of all of the MCAT and letters of recommendation advice.

Suzanne Miller's book on the med school admissions process is exceptional. Dr. Miller masterfully articulates the important points of the med school applications process. She hones her expression into a concise and authoritative language that provides you with details that you will not read anywhere else.Although the book is steeped in good advice, I particularly value the section on the secondary applications. Dr. Miller provides over 40 essay prompts categorized into 10 major themes that will allow you to complete much of your secondary applications before you even begin to apply. I cannot tell you how valuable this information is... secondary applications are very time consuming, but if you follow Dr. Miller's advice, they will be as easy as cutting and pasting your pre-written essays.This is a book for the general applicant, as well as for the elite applicant. As a graduate of an Ivy League school, my home school dedicates enormous resources into pre-medical advising. However, Dr. Miller's book surpasses the advice that I received from my school's career services by leaps and bounds; so much so that I purchased a copy of her book and mailed it to my home school's career services.This book will propel your application into a new level of excellence, not to mention save you enormous time in the process.Buy this book!"

Both my wife and I are doctors, so when our child announced he would like to follow in our footsteps, we were very pleased but also a bit nervous. We both know how hard it is to get into medical school and the process is so different from when we applied. On a trip, I saw someone reading this book in the airport, a young man about the same age as my son. I went and asked him how he liked the book. He was nice enough to spend a few minutes talking to me about it, and even gave me the chance to look it over. He said it was a huge help because it broke things down into conquerable parts, a little bit here, a little bit there. This was perfect for my son, and I know because it's just about the only think he's ever thanked me for, more than once. The Medical School Admissions Guide is as great book for your son/daughter applying to medical school as it was for us, the parents - we bought two copies so we could follow along with our son. I bought Rosetta Stone and I like it, but it doesn't explain any of the rules. (You're supposed to "absorb" the language). I was often left confused as to the how's and why's. French for Dummies has come in incredibly handy. I read the first three chapters and then I've randomly looked about if I have any questions. It's answered them all.Probably not great on its own, but as a supplement to another learning system, it's great! They also offer some neat tricks to remembering some of the very confusing rules of French.

This is an absolutely superb book. I’m a slow learner at languages. This book actually makes it fun to learn. I know that last sentence sounds like a commercial but that has been my personal experience.

The content is good, but it is hard to navigate in the Kindle version. Also, you CANNOT increase the font size on the charts; therefore, they are unreadable.

Have learned french with this book over several years. Just repurchased the kindle version. Very happy with the layout of it.

I bought the ebook , which is fine. However, have not been able to download the audio from Wiley. Went to their landing page and filled in all the necessary information and nothing happened. Would like to know how to do this successfully. Is there even an audio for the Kindle addition? Went to Wiley to get help and was so confusing didn't know where to start.

Very comprehensive review of the French language or for those new to it. Very easy to follow and has a dictionary at the end. I will use it over the winter to refresh my high school French before a trip.I have not used the CD yet.

This product is so disappointing that I will never buy anything from the For Dummies line again. This book has completely changed my ideal of what I thought the for dummies line offered. This book assumes not a dummy but a professional student just seeking a little bit of assistance what a major disappointment. Can't imagine how that came up with such a ridiculous assumption.

I found this book indispensable because the Rosetta Stone program I'm studying French with does not teach spelling. Nor does it directly teach the grammatical rules of verb conjugation. So while this book is quite long, it was well worth buying. I highly recommend this book as an informal textbook for learning French. If you're trying to learn French on your own, don't study without this book!

About the Author

Ray C. Anderson was founder and chairman of Interface, Inc., one of the world’s leading carpet and flooring producers. His story is now legend: Ray had a “spear in the chest” epiphany when he first read Paul Hawken’s The Ecology of Commerce, inspiring him to revolutionize his business in pursuit of environmental sustainability. In doing so Ray proved that business can indeed “do well by doing good.” His Georgia-based company has been ranked number one in a GlobeScan survey of sustainability experts, and it has continued to be an environmental leader even after Ray’s death in 2011. Ray authored the 1998 classic Mid-Course Correction, which chronicled his epiphany, as well as a later book, Confessions of a Radical Industrialist. He became an unlikely screen hero in the 2003 Canadian documentary The Corporation, and was named one of Time magazine’s Heroes of the Environment in 2007. He served as cochairman of the President’s Council on Sustainable Development and as an architect of the Presidential Climate Action Plan, a 100-day action plan on climate that was presented to the Obama Administration. John A. Lanier joined the Ray C. Anderson Foundation as executive director in May 2013 to advance the legacy of Ray, his grandfather. He is chair of the board of directors for Southface Energy Institute, the southeast’s nonprofit leader in the promotion of sustainable homes, workplaces, and communities through education, research, advocacy and technical assistance. I bought it for the Talk Talk / Mark Hollis parts and I've not been disappointed! There is a lot of technical information about the gears, tools, SSL and microphones used for the recording of Spirit of Eden, Laughing Stock and the Mark Hollis Album, and it does interest me because I am always curious about these things, even though I didn't use them all myself, but I know a few of them. Beside that, there is also the psychological aspect, without being indiscreet, and also the way Mark Hollis and Tim Frieze-Greene did their work, how perfectionist they are, it is a true lesson about the creation process, it is fascinating! It may look quirky but to me it has a lot of sense and logic, even if it was probably not easy at all.It is also how I discovered that the Mark Hollis could have never been released, the crazy and twisted way of the records companies, worst than I knew or imagined! This part made me very upset when I realized that we could have never heard this Mark Hollis Album. This business world is definitely far from being "Fuzzy Land"...I find this book rather well written as we are not bored, and easy to read. I would have appreciated that Phil Brown gives even more details, but he has so much to talk about, that his book could have become an encyclopedia! I also read about O' Rang of course, which is a very slightly sad episode. I will also read the rest because there are a lot of bands in it that I like or even love. If you expect to find gossips in it, forget it, Phil Brown is classy enough to remain very correct in his way of telling the stories, and I really do appreciate that.I certainly don't regret my expense, even if I was only interested in a part of this book when I bought it. I recommend it highly and I say thank you to the person who recommended it to me.

Phill Brown is not much of a writer, but as a recordist he is on par with the greats. The last two Talk Talk records, which he helped create and the making of which are detailed in his book, are still game-changers. Recording or classic rock geeks will get a lot of detail in this book that other readers will probably not appreciate. There is a clunky, no frills diary tone in the writing which some may take issue with. I personally appreciated the perspective his 40+ years of record-making gave him of the changes in the music industry.As a read, there have been better books on the same subject matter. As a document of some of the most brilliant music ever made (including Bob Marley, Led Zep, etc.), it's fascinating.

I am still working my way through this book, but some of this I had read years ago when excerpts were published in Tape Op magazine and I found Mr. Brown's stories captivating. I had no idea this book had finally been released and was so happy to find it. Engineers are often overlooked for the glamour of the artist and the producer, but they play a big part in how an album "sounds". Mr. Brown was really in the trenches pulling long hours splicing tape and sometimes accidently melting it! I really hope he gets his due from this book and hopefully any recording enthusiast will pick it up. At a minimum, reading this book will turn some people on to some amazing music. Years ago, from reading his excerpts in Tape Op, I picked up "Pressure Drop" by Robert Palmer. A great under appreciated album that blew me away by an artist that most only sadly remember for his 80's commercial output (Addicted to Love/Power Station). As with some other reviewers I was very intrigued by the stories about the making of "Nigel Lived" by Murray Head. All I can say upon purchasing that records is "Wow!" An amazing sounding album with lots of sonic experimentation and beautiful sounds. Mr. Brown worked his ass off on these records, doing weird field recordings, experimenting with mic placements and all while doing copious amounts of mind altering substances and with sometimes very substandard compensation for his labor. The stories about partying and hanging with legends are somewhat interesting, but it is the technical meat and potatoes side of making these records and the creative drive that are the most fascinating and rewarding about this book.

I am a young music lover who has always had an interest in recording and the technology associated with it. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book. Even though I was not initially familiar with many of the artists Phill worked with, I found his accounts of them fascinating. I was so interested in some of the artists Phill described working with that I bought their albums while reading the book. Because of this book I bought Murray Head's "Nigel Lived" (on CD and 2 copies of original vinyl. One new, one used), Robert Palmer's "Sneakin Sally", and Talk Talk's "Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing Stock". I found these albums were all extremely unique, well-performed by the artists, and especially well-recorded. I will continue to purchase a lot more of the albums Phill has been involved in and upcoming works of his (I understand he is working with David Gray right now). I am very grateful Phill decided to write this book!

Tue 5/10/2011 6:27 am. I'm about a third through, and I think anybody who has any interest in the recording business, particularly the British wing, would enjoy this. It's like a diary, with dated articles from 1967 through 96, and two more from this century -- and a glossary! Although I did have to google for "liggers" (hangers-on). I suppose if you've been an avid consumer of Rolling Stone for all this time, much will be familiar; but I wasn't, and even then, Phill Brown seems an especially lucid no-B.S. correspondent -- surprisingly, considering the chronicled pharmaceutical intake! -- and he doesn't seem to have any compulsion to make stuff up; while. at the same time, not going out of his way to dish the dirt, which I find refreshing.

My son loves the periodic table song and so I got him this book so he can learn more about the elements. He read it in a day but he has read it over and over. It was great how excited he became when he read something new and fascinating. This is a great, fun book!

My 10year old did not put it down after he received it for Christmas. The pages are colorful with just the right amount of text. This book shows up at least once a month for a re-skim!

This Periodic Table book appears to be targeted at young children. It has bright and cheerful pictures and advertises it is 'wacky'. Unfortunately it was not age appropriate (for any child). It contains dark and unnecessary subject matter.There is nothing 'amazing and wacky" about this book.The nonchalant reference to the loss of human lives is morbid. This book talks A LOT about murder, assassination, death, war, disease, and witches. It is not fun and cheerful as the pictures and bright colors suggest.I am appalled that the author and publisher thinks this is written for a child.Towards the end of the book it looks as if the author got bored and threw numerous elements on one page with a short sentence for each. Some information was completely false, such as the dinosaurs and how they became extinct.Science can be an enjoyable subject for children and it would be great to have resources to expose young minds to the fascinating parts without exposing them to darker parts of life and humanity.The author has failed to write toward the innocent young audience this book was intended for.

Reading this with and 8 year-old who loves it! We haven't gotten through all of it yet. It is a lot of information, but fun and a good introduction to the periodic table. I think we might skip over some of the elements (there is detailed information about every single one!) but it will be a good resource. It is fun and readable with interesting pictures and information along the way.
