Climate and when to go Belgium enjoys a fairly standard temperate climate, with warm, if mild, summers and cold winters. Generally speaking, temperatures rise the further south you go, with Wallonia a couple of degrees warmer than Flanders for most of the year, though in the east this is offset by the more severe climate of continental Europe, and emphasized by the increase in altitude of the Ardennes. Luxembourg, too, has more extreme temperatures and harsher winters, often accompanied by snow. In both countries rain is always a possibility, and you can expect a greater degree of precipitation in the Ardennes and upland regions than on the northern plains. As regards clothing, you should take heavy coats and gloves in winter, and lighter clothes and warm sweaters for the evening in summer. Some sort of rainwear is advisable all year round.

I traveled to Belgium in 1999 on a whim, for a long weekend in Antwerp, with about three days' notice. It was the best trip to Europe I've ever made. First, let me give you five (or six, or seven) really good reasons to go to Belgium and Luxembourg.1) Since they are somewhat off the beaten path (with the possible exception of Brugge (Bruges), in Flanders), they're cheap. You can get top quality accommodations, food, and beer for about half what you would expect to pay for similar quality in Paris, Cologne or Amsterdam.2) If well-preserved, but still functioning, medieval towns are your thing, consider this for a moment: Antwerp, Brugge, Ghent, Namur, Mechelen, Leuven, Tournai. Any questions?3) The best beer on earth, period.4) Small enough to get anywhere within two hours, and entirely realistic to tour on a bicycle.5) More linguistic, cultural, artistic and geographic diversity crammed into a small space than any other country in the world. You get Dutch, French, German, and maybe even a little Spanish.6) A courteous and helpful service ethic. Belgians love tourists! And I love Belgium!7) Jacques Brel. If you don't know, make it a point to discover him while you're there.And, of course, there are also five good reasons to buy this guide rather than other guides.1) Essential historical, cultural and literary contexts that explain these small countries' somewhat confusing, multi-ethnic histories.2) Encyclopedic coverage of all the cities, towns and important natural sites, including insightful historic and practical information.3) Immediately up-to-date listings. Be sure to buy the most recent edition.4) More substance than style. Rough Guides are intentionally that way.5) A "not to miss" section that is well researched and looks beyond the obvious.With mighty Brugge right next door, I still think incredible Ghent gets the short end of the stick. Some of the writing is a bit stale in this regard. For me, the hoards of tourists in Brugge make the experience in Ghent that much more authentic. There's nothing like falling into a Ghent pub at about 4:30PM for a Duvel, and staying on until you forget where you are. It's awesome. The same goes for "so-beautiful-it-hurts" Tournai, in Hainaut.If you don't buy the book, go anyway. And if you go to Belgium and spend all your time in Brussels, shame on you:)

I traveled to Belgium (Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp, Brussels) for a week in October of 2013 using the 5th edition. Aside from the cost of things going up, all of the information we relied on was still spot-on. The Rough Guide is one of the few publishers that dedicates an entire book to Belgium, and that alone makes this handy for a trip to the country. The introductory sections are nice for gaining a quick historical and cultural perspective in the area that you're in. As is the case with all Rough Guides, they do an excellent job of describing the main tourist attractions AND suggesting off-the-beaten-tourist-path sites. The maps are small which makes it slightly challenging to navigate the medieval layout of most cities. At the very least it can get you to the tourist information offices where complementary and detailed maps can be had. Whether you're interested in checking sights off a list or if you actually want to dive deeper to explore Belgium, this book is a fantastic resource.

Some errors and mix ups between different places. It gets you through the trip, but doesn't contain any "off the beaten path" stuff either. I try to avoid Lonely Planet since it's what everyone's doing, but this is pretty much the same.

See my review of the Kindle Rough Guide to France. This is a complete waste of money. It will save you more in the long-run to carry a print copy and leave it behind if you don't want to port the weight home.

My wife and I tried to use this guide while we ewre in Brussels for a short visit on our way to other countries, and found it very irritatingly organized and generally much less useful than we'd hoped. We ended up having to mostly figure things out on our own; the book is just okay if you need to find a (very) few restaurant recommendations. Keep looking...:)

This book is certain to become my favorite lettering tutorial! Beautiful pages, detailed lettering instruction with a variety of fonts. One review I read said there aren’t enough practice pages. I suppose that person doesn’t know about tracing paper? With tracing paper you can use this book over and over again without having a book full of wasted blank pages. Instead every page is used for instruction or inspiration.

I am so excited to have this book. Chrystal Elizabeth is my favorite lettering artist. I am so inspired by her work and creativity.

This book is absolutely gorgeous and packed with tons of valuable tips. Chrystal provided lots of examples of alphabet variations as well as embellishments, plus fun project and layout ideas. A wonderful step-by-step reference for anyone interested in brush lettering!

This is a great book-love love it.

About a year ago, I fell into the rabbithole of lettering on Instagram, ran out to buy a brush pen because it looked so easy, and then promptly found out it’s actually Very Difficult. A childhood perfectionist, I immediately gave up because I didn’t master lettering immediately. I’m sure I’m not the only one.But I still enviously watched videos, wishing I could write pretty headings in my bujo. So when I saw BRUSH LETTERING MADE SIMPLE, I thought I would give it another go.The book starts with a few simple tips, such as how to pick a suitable pen for beginners and what sort of paper to use. The author breaks down several styles of lettering, such as “Bouncy Modern” or “Typewriter-Style.” Alphabets for each style are included. I wish the alphabets were larger, though.But the biggest problem I had with this book is the lack of practice space. There’s a blank page at the end of each section, but it’s often on the flip side of the example. That’s not useful! And there are NO worksheets to trace! I don’t want to practice in the margins! I want examples to trace over!Lastly, how about a few tips for lefties?

For anyone interested in learning brush lettering, this is the perfect book. It starts with the very basics - unlike other books this does not assume you know anything. It starts right from the beginning and walks the reader through the basics through more advanced techniques of brush lettering. I don't have much artistic talent but the instructions here are clear and easy to follow and I have been able to produce some good results. You will learn about supplies and there some practice pages are included. This is also a nicely bound book with beautiful illustrations. It would make a nice gift, for yourself or someone else interested in the art of brush lettering.

I did like her sample alphabets, but some practice pages are not even facing the example and are just cute decorated blanks -- decorated by her watercolor florals around the edges. If you have completed a couple of basic workbooks, this is truly the next step. She does have tons of information on decoration, joining letters in a nice way etc And tons of pretty projects that you could potentially display or something! Lovely ideas on color, fancy alphabets and so on. Just don't do this book first and you will be fine. But definitely add it to your library -- I found this more enjoyable than coloring pages.

There is a lot to like about "Brush Lettering Made Simple: A Step-by-Step Workbook to Create Gorgeous Freeform Lettered Art" by Chrystal Elizabeth. It is a soothing book to look through which for me is good. The author gives a lot of explanation and examples so the instructions were easy to follow. I have to admit that maybe I'm just not a lettering person because my impatience would get to me but one of the younger family members (early teen) who is starting to do more planning and scrap booking really enjoys it. She has the patience to work through the workbook and honestly, the effort is paying off. She inspires me to try to be a little more patient with the exercises.The point of that is that the book provides good instructions that a motivated reader can follow and see her (or his) efforts pay off with practicing the exercises.

Good cheap drug handbook. It has all da newest drugs advertised on TV. For $20 plus shipping, you can't get more book for less money anywhere else. Easy to understand. You just have to look up drug in back of book INDEX, then turn back to page specified. It's da only way you can go about looking drugs up. It's a real pain in the ass, but still most up to date drug book for da least amount of money. I say it's worth it. Satisfied.

I have been buying this book for years.What a shame that the pages are inconsistant this year.Some so light you cannot read it and others very dark.I counted 11 pages that were a mess!! Do not buy from this manufacturer because the printer they used is terrible.

With so many doctors etc. who prescribe only generic drugs and the lack of time to detail any & all side effects this book is a MUST! Since patients must be their own advocates to acquire any & all information about their medications this publication is a rerequirement!

Having worked in nursing care, this book has been a guide for nurses and on the home front. When my older guide was outdated, I decided to update; quite a lot of changes of medicines in use from way back when. So, we do refer to this book when we have any change of medicines or new ones introduced into our lives. It's a very handy guide book to own for all age phases of life.

Completely filled the bill for what we needed and wanted. Contains all the info we needed for all our medications. Very satishfied

Would be nice, but far from complete. Two of the medicines my family takes are not in there. And it should be noted that I’ve only checked for three so far. 33% rate ain’t gonna cut it....

Dr. O'Reilly is a healing voice for an issue that is very hurtful to many gays, lesbians, and the people who love them in the Christian community. She treats people on both sides of the issue with love and compassion and asks that we simply sit down, take a thoughtful look, and then decide if we agree or disagree rather than immediately condemning the other side.

The Bible is a foundational part of American culture, and Kim O'Reilly's book is a critical contribution to often-misguided attempts to reconcile the teachings of conservative Christianity with the Bible's message. She is a gentle messenger, teaching tolerance, patience and kindness from her own experiences of growing up evangelical. I would add fully one-third of the 31,102 verses in the Bible advocate caring for the "outsider," the "other." My favorite verse, Micah 6:8 says this: "...and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?" If you prefer Jesus' words, John 13:34-35 says: "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." Is debating the Bible a good idea? Not usually, but knowing its real message is key to knowing where someone is coming from when they use it to denounce homosexuality. Knowledge - and self-acceptance- truly is power, as Kim's book vividly demonstrates.

I loved this book. Dr. O’Reilly includes her own story, which makes the text relatable and entertaining. Additionally, the book reads like a textbook where the author very unbiasedly presents historic facts of how/when the Bible was written, the interpretations of scripture, and let’s the reader decide for themselves what to believe. In this day and age it’s difficult to find texts that are not leaning entirely one way or the other. This is a great resource for anyone curious about homosexuality and its interaectionality with Christianity.

Finally - someone has written a solid book that is unbiased and not playing judge. Thank Dr. O'Reilly. It has been heart-breaking to see how so many Christians have treated homesexuals in our society. Like Dr. O'Reilly states- "Agree or Disagree"- but at least study alongside scriptures, her research, stories, and insight first before making judgement. Let God be the judge and while you are still on this earth, read this book to open your mind and learn how to truly obey His most important commandment to LOVE regardless of where you end up standing on this topic.

As a lesbian and a Catholic, I loved finally having a resource show me all those places in the Bible that say I am an abomination against God. Just finally getting to know what all the fuss is about. It’s very informative and yet personal given that Dr. O’Reily grew up in very strict religious background herself. Read the book to find out more.

This little book is a great gift to those of us who value understanding cultural consensus. I don't have time to watch all the movies that Jeffrey does. Yet his insights guide me in what stories I want "to get into." These reviews are invaluable to me. "Through a Screen Darkly" is one of the best "how to watch a movie" books I have seen.

Hey, I'm not a movie reviewer. I'm a Flight Attendant who loves reading good books. And this new book THROUGH A SCREEN DARKLY by Jeffrey Overstreet, is fantastic. Well written, poetic in prose (I mean, how often do you find that in a movie reviewer) and in general a great read! My copy just arrived today from Amazon.com and I'm already calling all my friends to get them to buy the book as well! You'll love it!

This book will be of great help in sorting through the plethora of movie choices available. I am very impressed by the author's recommendations,and the intelligence and spirituality behind them. I will most definitely be using this resource in choosing films to watch.

Joe Pusher claims to be some sort of scout and these are 'behind the scenes' photos of models, but in a book (a terrible one) he wrote, we find out he just puts ads in newspapers 'looking for girls to model' but we discover what that /really/ means is "I pay you to take pictures of you in states of dress and undress, maybe put you in a video where you do the naughty with me, and I'll put the pics/DVDs on Amazon and hope I make a turn around".The photos of the models are nearly always in some obvious cheap hotel in L.A. and frequently they resemble the same exact room, and sometimes he'll get two to play at girly love or something.I digress, the guy is a shoddy photographer and seems to basically be a fraternity member looking for girls who are willing to let him do 'em for money. Sometimes he'll take pics of them with the money as well. Anyway, if you are here for erotica, it rarely has the model take her clothes off early so 80-90% of the book are tame, and not worth 2.99. Heck, the books are frequently free and I feel like I should get paid a buck to peruse them. Sometimes you'll find a cute girl to your liking, but it's a gamble.I didn't care for this one, so find something better to do with your money, please... but these two models are kinda smokin' together in my opinion so it nudged up the normally crap J.P. score to 2.
