Finally. A practical guide to valuation in biotech. If you're looking to figure out whether you should use IRR or NPV or how to build that NPV spreadsheet, this is not the book for you. You don't have to be an expert number cruncher but the book assumes a basic financial knowledge and understanding of general valuation concepts. This is why the book is so useful. Models are only as good as what goes into them. David, who clearly has deep industry experience, does a fantastic job of framing a process for thinking through key assumptions including revenue size and growth and development and commercialization costs. Equally useful are commonly used benchmarks for these assumptions (of course only to be used in absence of any other knowledge). The book is to be used "just in time" and doesn't require you read it beginning to end.

The book might seem shorter than expected for the steep price. However, this is because all the fluff is culled away. Each section is direct and useful as a reference. This guide contained many facts and figures useful for valuation and modelling which should create value for readers.

Sure, it's not cheap for a book of only 100 pages. But the information contained in the Pharmagellan Guide is straight to-the-point. There isn't any fluff (I can't say the same for some 1,000+ page textbooks). I strongly recommend this book to anyone involved in biotech or pharma valuation.One particularly useful component: the citations and Pharmagellan's analyses. For example, Pharmagellan did a study of clinical trial success times, which you can incorporate into your valuation models.

As a 26yr-old beginner in this journey, I couldn't be any happier about this book. Enjoyable quick read for me. The style of writing was not flashy, but the description of the terrain and the tactical problems it presented was very good. The author seemed very aware of Clauswitz' [On War] discussion of time and space in combat. The description of the campaign and, particularly the battle of Saratoga was excellent. I have read a number of accounts of this battle and this is the first time I think I got the full picture and understood how it played out.I was a bit surprised by the favorable coverage of General Gates. I suspect that other writers have had their historical lenses spattered by Gates' very sorry performance at the Battle of Camden later in the war and the dispute that he had with General Arnold at Saratoga. However, this account gives Gates credit for a great deal and I suspect that credit was deserved.I particularly liked the author's depiction of armed citizens who were able to step up and defend their homes, their fields, their towns and their country. The tendency these days is to ignore or diminish their solid achievements. The credit given to the frontier riflemen and their very accurate and deadly fire is another mark in favor of this account.I have decided to read the other books in this series.Afterword: I read some of the criticism others have written and I can't disagree with much of it, but my interest was primarily on how the campaign and final battles played out and for me the book was great in those areas.

The book is not especially well written and definitely needs a good editor to take it in hand. A lot of basic typos, choppy spots, and repetition mar it badly.The author has some strange fixations - he seems to have a macabre fascination with the tomahawk as a weapon and many times repeats the same theme about it. At one point he seemed to be about to write an ode to gun ownership, which made no contribution to the narrative and seemed oddly out of the flow of the story. The fact that trees in old growth forests could be 15 feet in diameter gets repeated.In much the same way he seems to have a deep concern that African American participants in the action should be acknowledged. To make sure, he stops the flow of the narrative to mention them. He does this more than once and each time it feels like someone criticized the first draft and he was trying to make up for forgetting.He puffs quite a bit about things other authors did not do, or did badly, but I don’t feel he really plowed any new ground here. This is not a scholarly history.It also is poorly titled. He mentions the various initiatives the British undertook, but really only narrates the Saratoga Campaign. The others are merely mentioned in passing. If this is about the Wilderness Campaign it would seem appropriate to discuss the entire British effort, as he started to do and then trailed off into Saratoga.Definitely a ‘pop history’, it is a reasonable effort overall, but the story has been done elsewhere and I think better.

The American Revolution is one of my favorite periods of history, especially since I didn't have to live through it. The 1777 battles of northern New York State are often overlooked, but they are among some of the most violent and bloody of the war. Michael Logusz takes on the task of presenting the history of this campaign.---The Good Stuff---* The author writes in an easy to read style, and most of the book comes across as an easy to read narrative.* Logusz spends about one third of the book on the battles of Lake Champlain and Fort Ticonderoga. He does a very good job of explaining the geography and importance of the waterways, the thick forest with its difficult passages, and presents the strategies and tactics of both sides quite well. I have read other accounts of this campaign, and this is one of the best.* Much of the remainder of the book discusses the battles of Saratoga. Again, the author does a credible job of capturing the flow of the battles.* Logusz tells much of the tale from the point of view of the soldiers and generals involved. This definitely adds to the readability and interest of the book.* The campaign was very bloody-on both sides. The author does a reasonable job of relating the violence without getting overly sensational or graphic.---The Not-So-Good Stuff--- (and I admit to being picky)* The notes are very extensive, and it would have been my preference to move much of the information in the notes into the narrative. I find it very distracting to flip between text and notes, and truth be told, often don't read them until later.* For a story based on characters 230+ years ago, there is a remarkable level of detail in relating the thoughts and actions of relatively unknown individuals. I can't help but wonder about the absolute authenticity of these passages.* Lack of maps, and illegibility of maps included in the Kindle edition damage the text. Many of the important landmarks are either too obscure to be found on modern maps, of the names have changed over the years.* The text can get a bit confusing and choppy. It doesn't help that many of the participants on both sides had similar sounding names.* The Kindle edition, like most other Kindle editions, is plagued by typos, missing text, and other generally annoying 3rd grade nonsense.* Some of the author's viewpoints slip in to the narrative, something almost impossible to avoid.* My biggest criticism is the limitations of some of the material presented. For example, in relating the story of the Battles of Saratoga, Logusz mostly presents General Gates in a favorable light, and makes his cautious nature seem rational. In nearly every other account of this battle I have read, Gates is portrayed much differently and far less favorably. Logusz owes the reader a defense of his opinion of Gates.Similary, Logusz makes assertions which he does not defend or attempt to explain. For example, a good amount of detail is spent discussing the tactical errors made in the defense of Fort Ticonderoga, but no mention of how these errors could have been made.---Summary---I enjoyed the book, although it wasn't the sort of reading that kept me up until 4AM. The author does a credible job of relating the 1777 campaigns, and I would recommend the book without hesitation to anyone interested in the American Revolution. The work does have a number of limitations, which keep it from being a great book.

This first volume is a well-researched account of the Saratoga Campaign: Fort Ticonderroga, Hubbardton, Bennington, Freeman's Farm, Bemis Heights, followed by Burgoyne's a few days later. A great story of endurance, courage, leadership, strategy, and their commitment to fight for freedom. As good a read as Richard M. Ketchum's "Saratoga." I'm glad I read both.

This poor review is for the digital book only.DO NOT BUY THE DIGITAL OR KINDLE VERSION. I was so disappointed to find out this book was a plain old PDF, which is a real pain in the butt to read on a screen device. You can't search, don't have fluid margins, can't increase the font size or change to night mode, etc.Huge disappointment in that regard, but the content in the book itself is wonderful. I recommend purchasing it in old-fashioned paperback.

A well-written and engaging book that, while focused on game design, provides insights far beyond the world of game design and is full of useful advice for anyone designing anything.The book guides the reader through the entire design process, starting with discussing the designer's ultimate objective (to create an experience); continuing through understanding the elements that comprise games, addressing the needs of players, exploring the fundamental types of game mechanics, developing game worlds; and concluding with how to deal with clients, how to pitch a game, and how games transform their audiences.Along the way, the author present a series of 100 "lenses" through which designers can focus on specific aspects of their design. Each lens provides a series of questions that help designers stay on track during the course of their design. The author also sells a card set called "A Deck of Lenses" which present these lenses with illustrations [...] The deck of lenses is also available as an smart phone/tablet app [...]As I noted above, many of the concepts in this book can be applied to not only game design, but also provide insights that can be applied to other fields as well. I'm a big fan of Walt Disney Imagineering, and found that many of the design principles in this book are the same principles used by the Imagineers in the design of Disney theme parks. Based on the author's background (Jesse Schell is a former Imagineer), this wasn't too big a surprise, but I still find the parallels worth noting.I highly recommend this book to anyone working in the game industry, as well as anyone interested in design in general. You'll be glad you added this book to your library.

This book is awesome. I'm just a beginner studying Gaming Design and this works for me. It works a lot on concepts, induces some exercises and self-criticizing about how to think when creating content. Goes much more theoretical than practical so if you need to learn about Coding, this is not your book. Expect reading a lot about every type possible of "game", not only about the electronic-modern type, but also card-game, story-telling game, etc.

Fantastically good book on game design. This is not, however, a beginner book, in my opinion. This is definitely something to read if you've already started designing a game, or have some experience in game design. Regardless, it carries with it quite a bit of good advice and theory on many aspects of making games. Truly a book on the art (and craft) of game design.This book goes really well with the book "Challenges for Game Designers" by Brenda (Braithwaite)Romero and Ian Schreiber.

I had a notion of designing a game. This book was recommended somewhere, I don't remember where. I read an excerpt and it seemed to offer up some good information, and a good place to start to get an overview of what is involved.Upon reading it, I was blown away. Schell covers everything, quite literally everything. I found that the lenses he reveals are useful regardless of what you're doing. I am an in-house designer for a major corporation and can readily see how the topics covered can help in my "day job", both internally to working with the teams in the company, but also in addressing our customers and their needs.You won't get the technical "how to code something" information, or algorithms or strategies. You will get the underlying principles and guidance for building pretty much any project, games or otherwise.Thank you for publishing this Mr. Schell.

This story is all over the place! Really, I have a high tolerance for toddler books based on shows, but this is just too much. I'm donating it since I know a lot of kids are crazy about Paw Patrol, and I don't think my daughter will miss it.The plot doesn't follow the typical show outline which is fine but for the target audience I think this would just cause a lot of them to lose interest. Too many zany "and then this happened" pages to where I just think it's kind of a stressful read. No joke!

We got this book for my son when he turned 2 as he is infatuated with busses and likes Paw Patrol... is this seemed like a perfect combo! The story is cute. The illustrations are great. My son loves following along with the story and loves saying “No, Chickaletta!”

A cute story, but a little too long for my two year olds attention span. She loves Paw Patrol and reading, but this one fell a bit short.

Another fun Paw Patrol book for kids. My 2.5 year old daughter loves the story and especially the pictures. She likes to "read" it to me making up her own story sometimes. Reads like an episode of the TV show and can be shortened for younger kids when storytime is short.

Great book for our 1-3 year old who loves buses .

Awesome short stories that can be read in about 5 minutes. The kids can't seem to get enough paw patrol

Amazing Glaze is an amazingly beautiful book both in the content and way it was written as well as the way it was photographed. I had the benefit of taking a glazing class with the author. The class transformed my love/hate relationship with glazing to one of love/joy! Readers can now benefit from Gabriel’s knowledge because it’s like taking the class with him. While I thought my years of study and glaze testing were deep, I had never heard of specific gravity before and had relied on older methods to visualize glaze consistency i.e., dipping my hand in the glaze and watching it run off. This not a particularly reliable nor healthy method to check glaze consistency to say the least. What’s a hydrometer you you say? Read and learn young grasshopper. Another epiphany for me was creating meaningful test tiles that reflect the type of work I do (these can then be sold as miniatures of your work—that is of course after documenting successes and failures). I have buckets of my old test tiles from years of testing. And while I gain inspiration from looking at the beautiful combinations, the test tiles are taking up valuable shelf space.In addition to all the practical information about glaze and glazing, Gabriel also generously shares his bountiful knowledge, techniques, glaze recipes and glaze combinations so that you too can achieve some amazing results! Get the book, you won’t regret it! It may very well change your perspective on glazes and glazing and thereby elevate your work to amazing as well!

This book encourages and teaches. I hate glazing - it's where all your hard work can end up just "not there"....but this book offers lessons on nearly every aspect of glazing - from reading the recipe, to adjusting thickness and application. Recipes are included for a wide range of firing with photographs of the results. I am encouraged after reading this - not so sure I'm eager to glaze, but at least I'll be better prepared. Highly recommended.

This book is a gorgeous breath of fresh air from other ceramics books. Besides being visually STUNNING (the cover is even cooler in real life), the text is written in a unique and way that is both academic and rigorous while breaking down terms and ideas for the layman in a far less formal manner that makes the reader feel like a peer, an equal, instead of an insubordinate who is lucky to just witness someone's knowledge. Gabriel Kline is more than a potter- dude's a writer, and I cannot think of a book I would recommend more. Honestly, I think this would make a fantastic textbook at the college level for a intro to glazing/glaze chemistry class. Incredible value in with amazing photos and contributors.

I am a pretty much a newbie to the pottery world. This book has become my new bible for glazing pottery.It is extremely well put together and filled with great information. The gallery photos of the ceramic pottery and sculpture are vibrant and high quality. Even the example photos showing the the various techniques and processes are beautiful. I highly recommend this book to both newbie beginners and old hands at the art.

A must-have for every potter, Amazing Glaze demystifies the glazing process in simple, non-technical, playful prose by glaze guru Gabriel Kline of Odyssey Clayworks. It will motivate even the most reluctant "glaze hater" back into the glaze lab, lured by inspiring photos of the glazing process and glazes running the full gamut from low to high fire, oxidation/reduction, raku, salt/soda and wood. As Ben Carter, the author of _Mastering the Potter's Wheel_, writes "This book made me fall in love with glaze all over again."

This book is amazing! I have been throwing pots for about five years, and glazing has always been a mystery to me... This book covers so many different techniques, in a very understandable step by step process, and has uncovered the mystery to me of layering and getting depth out of my glazes, among many other mysteries! I found this book very helpful and very beautifully done. It also makes a great gift! I gave this book to my dad, a potter of 50 years, and he loves it! If you are interested in pottery and the process of glazing or know someone who is a potter this book is a must!

This book is wonderful, it gives a lot of insight about glazes and glazing techniques. Beautiful pictures of pieces by very talented artists that give inspiration to even beginner potters looking to learn all about glazing.
